Third Call of ERA-NET on Smart Cities and Communities

Do you have an idea aiming to transform urban areas to centres of innovation and technology? Do you have an eco-friendly solution for interurban transport and logistics systems? Then, don’t miss the transnational Joint Call of the ERA-NET Smart Cities and Communities (ENSCC) which will be opened next December 2014.

The objective is to encourage member countries to creating attractive, sustainable and economically viable urban areas, in which European citizens, communities and their surroundings can thrive.

A total amount of joint public funding of approximately €20-28 million will be provided by national and regional funding agencies from twelve European countries (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey). A proposal for substantial support from Horizon 2020 was sent to the EU Commission. Partners from third countries not officially participating in the call are also welcome in a consortium but they need to fund their activities from other sources.

This third call covers four topics such as: smart integrated urban energy and transport systems, smart tools and services for integrated urban energy and transport systems, smart big data and smart governance and smart citizens.

The process will follow two phases: In the first stage, consortia are invited to submit pre-proposals from December 2014 to March 2015, from which approximately 50 initiatives will be selected. The successful consortia will then be invited to elaborate their ideas to full proposals from May to September 2015. The idea is that projects start between December 2015 and March 2016.

The objective of ERA-NET is to step up the cooperation and coordination of research activities carried out at national or regional level in the Member States and Associated States through the networking of research activities conducted at national or regional level and the mutual opening of national and regional research programmes.
