Open Smart Grid Platform

As a major energy company, Alliander has the task of helping society make the transition to an affordable, sustainable, reliable and safe energy supply. The sustainable development of public spaces is an integral part of this endeavour.

Maximum market forces

Alliander aims to stimulate market forces by offering an 'open smart grid platform'. Thanks to this platform, diverse installations in the public space can be easily monitored and controlled with any application and via any communication infrastructure.

Flexible switching of Public Lighting

Municipalities and provinces are now capable of switching and dimming their own public lighting facilities, without being dependent on a specific supplier. Alliander wants to actively support these organisations in their transition to flexible public lighting systems.

Trials in Amsterdam, Leiden and Zaltbommel In the spring of 2013, trials were started up in the municipalities of Amsterdam, Leiden and Zaltbommel to gain experience with flexible public lighting. The trial in Amsterdam (Osdorp, District of Nieuw-West) forms part of Amsterdam Smart City, a partnership set up by businesses, government agencies and the municipality of Amsterdam to make the city smarter and more sustainable. The trials in Amsterdam and Leiden involved the installation of 50 ‘smart’ streetlights in each municipality in order to test the switching and monitoring of public lighting in a real setting.
